Francesco di Stefano, known as Pesellino, was a celebrated Florentine painter of the early Italian Renaissance, active in the mid-15th century. He was the grandson of painter Giuliano d'Arrigo (called Pesello), from whom he likely derived his nickname, and trained in the tradition of Fra Filippo Lippi. Pesellino was particularly admired for his small-scale devotional panels and cassone paintings, distinguished by their refined draughtsmanship, delicate color, and lyrical narrative quality.
