Filippo Palizzi was a prominent Italian painter renowned for his naturalistic depictions of animals and rural life, becoming one of the foremost exponents of the Verismo movement in Southern Italy. His meticulous attention to natural detail and direct observation of nature revolutionized Italian painting, with major works like "The Flock" and numerous animal studies that demonstrated his scientific approach to representing reality. He served as director of the Naples Academy of Fine Arts and was instrumental in promoting plein-air painting and naturalism among Italian artists of the Risorgimento period.
