Ernest Charton

Ernest Charton (1816, 1877) was a French painter known for his genre scenes, portraits, and travel-inspired works depicting life in South America, particularly Argentina and Chile, where he spent significant time. He studied under Paul Delaroche in Paris and became celebrated for his vivid depictions of local customs, costumes, and landscapes encountered during his travels. His works have appeared at major auction houses including Christie's and Sotheby's, valued for their historical and ethnographic significance.
