Dirk Valkenburg (1675, 1721) was a Dutch Golden Age painter known for his depictions of tropical landscapes, exotic animals, and plantation scenes painted during his time in Suriname. He traveled to the Dutch colony around 1706 under the patronage of Jonas Witsen, producing remarkable works that documented the natural and social environment of the Caribbean. His paintings are among the earliest European artistic records of Surinamese plantation life and flora.
