Cornelius Johnson (also known as Cornelis Janssen van Ceulen) was a highly regarded Anglo-Netherlandish portrait painter active in the early 17th century, celebrated for his refined and sensitive depictions of English aristocracy and gentry. He worked extensively at the court of Charles I before emigrating to the Dutch Republic following the outbreak of the English Civil War. His portraits are distinguished by their meticulous detail, subtle use of light, and psychological depth.
