'Circle of Philippe de Champaigne' is an attribution used by auction houses to describe works produced by artists closely associated with, trained by, or working in the immediate stylistic orbit of the Flemish-born French Baroque master Philippe de Champaigne (1602, 1674). These works share strong stylistic and compositional affinities with Champaigne's documented output but cannot be firmly attributed to his hand alone. Such designations reflect the collaborative and workshop-based nature of seventeenth-century French and Flemish artistic production.
