Charles Jones (1866, 1959) was a British photographer known for his extraordinarily intimate and detailed photographs of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, taken around the turn of the 20th century. Working as a gardener, Jones created his images privately, and they were virtually unknown until a cache of his glass plate prints was discovered at a Bermondsey market in 1981. His work is celebrated for its modernist sensibility and painterly quality, anticipating artistic photography by decades.
