Aert de Gelder was a Dutch Golden Age painter and one of Rembrandt's most devoted pupils. He is distinguished as the only Dutch artist to carry on Rembrandt's late style well into the 18th century, long after it had fallen out of fashion. His works are celebrated for their rich use of color, dramatic lighting, and expressive biblical narratives.
