Abraham Danielsz. Hondius was a Dutch Golden Age painter born in Rotterdam around 1625, known primarily for his dynamic depictions of hunting scenes, animal combat, and biblical subjects. He trained in the Netherlands before relocating to London around 1666, where he spent the latter part of his career and gained considerable patronage. His vigorous compositions featuring dogs, bears, and wild animals in fierce struggle reflect the influence of Flemish Baroque masters such as Rubens and Snyders.
