Ernest Leonard Blumenschein

Ernest Leonard Blumenschein (1874, 1960) was an American painter and founding member of the Taos Society of Artists, whose 1898 wagon wheel breakdown in New Mexico sparked a lifelong fascination with the Southwest. Renowned for his vivid, expressionistic portrayals of Pueblo and Navajo life, mountain landscapes, and Native American ceremonial subjects, his work blends realist technique with bold, decorative color influenced by his studies in Paris.
