Natsuyuki Nakanishi (1935, 1994) was a pioneering Japanese avant-garde artist and a founding member of the influential Neo-Dada collective Hi Red Center, which engaged in radical performance and conceptual actions in early 1960s Tokyo. His practice encompassed painting, installation, and performance, often incorporating surrealist imagery, erotic motifs, and fragmented figures that challenged conventions of the body and identity. Nakanishi is regarded as a central figure in postwar Japanese contemporary art, bridging Dadaist provocation with a deeply personal visual language.
