René Gruau (born Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle Caminate) was an Italian-French fashion illustrator celebrated for his bold, graphic style that captured the elegance of haute couture in the mid-20th century. He is best known for his iconic advertising illustrations for Christian Dior, as well as campaigns for Balmain, Givenchy, and other leading fashion houses, creating imagery that defined postwar Parisian glamour. His work, characterized by confident brushstrokes, dramatic use of negative space, and a limited but striking color palette, elevated fashion illustration to a fine art form.
