Larry Johnson

Larry Johnson is an American conceptual artist and photographer based in Los Angeles, known for his text-based photographic works that critically engage with American consumer culture, Hollywood mythology, and queer identity. His large-scale Cibachrome photographs often feature hand-lettered or typeset text overlaid on colorful backgrounds, blending wit and irony to interrogate mass media, advertising aesthetics, and social norms. Johnson emerged as a significant figure in the Pictures Generation context, exhibiting with major galleries and institutions from the late 1980s onward.
