Joan Miró — Ruthven Todd Album, Joan Miró poem: two impressions
Joan Miró

Ruthven Todd Album, Joan Miró poem: two impressions

These two rare working proofs from the Ruthven Todd Album represent unique moments in Joan Miró's printmaking process at the legendary Atelier 17 in New York, where he collaborated with the influential Stanley William Hayter. Annotated in pencil by master printer Piero Crommelynck as "essai" and "essai essuyage," the proofs capture the technical experimentation behind the final edition, existing without the accompanying poem text of which only six to ten complete examples were ever printed. As singular artifacts from the creative workshop process, these unframed impressions offer an intimate glimpse into Miró's collaborative printmaking practice and the meticulous craft of mid-century intaglio printing.

Medium
Annotated 'essai' (test) and 'essai essuyage' (wiping test) respectively by Piero Crommelynck in pencil (both unique working proofs without the text/poem, there were only 6-10 printed with text), printed by the artist and Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17, New York, both unframed
