JAMES DEAN ALBUM
2013
A monumental folded pigment print measuring over two meters in height, JAMES DEAN ALBUM draws on Jack Pierson's sustained fascination with desire, celebrity, and the mythologies Americans construct around beauty and loss. The work's physical creasing is not incidental but integral, a deliberate intervention that fractures the photographic surface and introduces an almost sculptural dimension to the image. Pierson treats the fold as both a formal gesture and an emotional one, evoking the worn, handled quality of personal photographs passed between hands, tucked into drawers, and returned to obsessively over time. Pierson has long worked at the intersection of photography, language, and found imagery, and JAMES DEAN ALBUM reflects his ongoing inquiry into how icons are simultaneously worshipped and consumed. Dean functions here less as a biographical subject than as a cultural residue, a figure whose image has been so thoroughly circulated that it now carries the weight of collective longing more than individual memory. The scale amplifies this tension, transforming something intimate and archival into an overwhelming, almost confrontational presence. Signed by the artist and presented unframed to allow flexibility in installation, this work is available through John Wolf Art Advisory and Brokerage and represents a compelling acquisition for collectors drawn to postmodern photography, queer visual culture, and work that interrogates the seductive power of the American image. Pierson's prints are held in significant private and institutional collections internationally, and this large-format example stands among his most resonant statements in the medium.
