Dan Flavin — Untitled (for Charlotte and Jim Brooks) 2
Dan Flavin

Untitled (for Charlotte and Jim Brooks) 2

1964

This iconic light installation by Dan Flavin features a horizontal blue fluorescent tube mounted on a wall with a shorter red tube positioned centrally above it, flooding the surrounding space with a deep luminous blue glow and a warm magenta halo where the two colors converge. The work is dedicated to Charlotte and Jim Brooks, the American painters James Brooks and his wife Charlotte Park, who were close friends and colleagues of Flavin within the New York art world. Part of a limited edition set and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by an authorized authenticating body, this piece exemplifies Flavin's signature minimalist practice of transforming architectural space through commercially available fluorescent fixtures. The interplay of colored light creates an immersive atmospheric environment that dissolves the boundary between object and environment.
