Produced in 2020, this large-scale work on Rives BFK White combines collagraph, relief, screenprint, acrylic, and chine collés on Okawara in a process that is itself an act of storytelling. Each technique contributes its own visual register, from the embossed topographies of the collagraph to the translucent tissue-like passages of the chine collés, creating a surface that rewards sustained looking and speaks to the complexity of layered histories. Duane Slick, a painter and printmaker of Meskwaki and Ho-Chunk descent who has built a distinguished career at the intersection of Indigenous visual traditions and contemporary art practice, approaches printmaking as a space where multiple truths can coexist simultaneously.
