Adam Dix — Trinity of Immersion
Adam Dix

Trinity of Immersion

2022

Trinity of Immersion presents three luminous figures submerged in translucent depths, rendered in the meticulous layered glazing technique that has come to define Adam Dix's singular vision. Working in oil glazes on paper, Dix builds up veils of pigment that generate an uncanny internal glow, as though light emanates from within the composition rather than falling upon it. The figures hover in an ambiguous space between sleep and waking, ritual and reverie, their forms softened by the medium into something at once hyper-real and deeply dreamlike. At 72 by 53 centimetres, the work commands attention while retaining an intimate scale suited to close, sustained looking. Dix occupies a compelling position within contemporary figurative painting, drawing on art historical traditions of symbolism and allegory while maintaining a distinctly modern psychological atmosphere. His subjects are frequently caught in states of threshold, suspended between consciousness and dissolution, the individual and the collective. Trinity of Immersion extends this preoccupation with particular elegance, the triadic structure lending the composition a ritualistic geometry that reinforces its meditative mood. The choice of paper as support, rather than canvas, adds a subtle translucency to the ground itself, enhancing the sense that the figures exist in a liminal, otherworldly space. Currently available through Guerin Projects and accompanied by the artist's signature, this work represents a strong example of Dix's mature practice. Collectors with an interest in visionary figuration, psychological depth, and technically refined painting will find Trinity of Immersion a rewarding and quietly haunting acquisition.
