Mask (Concentric Self)
A haunting and fragmented bronze mask emerges from a base of raw brick, its layered, concentric forms suggesting the infinite complexity of identity and selfhood. Monahan's expressive handling of the bronze surface, enhanced by rich patina and translucent wax, gives the work an archaeological quality, as if the face has been excavated from deep within memory or myth. The tension between the industrial stainless steel and the ancient weight of brick and bronze evokes a self that is simultaneously constructed, eroded, and endlessly recursive.
