Still Life with Daffodil, Rose and Green Plate
1985
This large scale wall mounted steel work by Tom Wesselmann belongs to a signature body of work in which the artist translated line drawings into interconnected pieces of laser cut steel that he then painted in bold, vivid hues. The composition features abstracted floral elements including a prominent yellow daffodil, a red rose, and gestural botanical forms rendered in blue, green, orange, and dark teal, all contained within an orange rectangular border. Wesselmann was a leading figure of American Pop Art whose still life and floral subjects maintained a playful yet rigorous engagement with color, line, and form across decades of his career. This work was on view at Gagosian Athens as part of the exhibition Tom Wesselmann: Seascapes, Still Lifes, and Nudes running from March 17 through May 30, 2026.
