Drippi Hedren
2023
Drippi Hedren stands as a commanding example of the Haas Brothers' Accretion series, translated into patinated cast bronze in 2023 after the artists first developed the concept in ceramics a decade earlier. Rising to over five feet tall, the sculpture's surface is composed of densely layered organic protrusions that evoke biological growth, coral formations, and the slow accumulation of natural matter. Each individual petal-like element is built up entirely by hand, and the process is as generative as it is destructive, requiring the collapse of certain forms so that others can reach full development. The result is a surface that feels simultaneously ancient and alive, carrying the logic of natural systems within a permanent, weighty medium. Nikolai and Simon Haas, twin brothers born in Austin, Texas in 1984 and based in Los Angeles, have built a practice since 2010 that refuses easy categorization. Their work moves fluidly between sculpture, furniture, and decorative art while consistently engaging themes of nature, fantasy, and the body. The Accretion series reflects a sustained curiosity about imitating organic processes rather than simply depicting them, pushing craft to a point where material behavior and artistic intention become difficult to separate. Works from this body have been exhibited widely across the United States and internationally. This signed work presents a strong opportunity for collectors drawn to sculptural objects that carry both formal sophistication and conceptual depth. The rich patination of the bronze rewards close looking, shifting in character as light conditions change and the eye moves across the irregular, hand-built surface. Drippi Hedren is offered through the Contemporary Austin Benefit Auction, and shipping will originate from Vault Fine Art Services in Austin, Texas.
