Lonesome Hero #3 is a colored pencil work on cardboard, completed in 2021 by Yogyakarta-based artist Roby Dwi Antono. Measuring 40 by 44 centimeters, the piece exemplifies the paradoxical visual world Antono has developed across painting and drawing, where wide-eyed figures occupy an uncertain territory between human, animal, and alien. His practice draws simultaneously on Renaissance pictorial tradition, science fiction imagery, natural history, and surrealist fantasy, and the result is a cast of characters who feel at once deeply familiar and entirely invented. His work sits comfortably within what has been called contemporary surrealism, yet it carries a personal emotional register that resists easy categorization. Lonesome Hero #3 is offered through the Art Keeps Nonprofits Going Benefit Auction, with proceeds benefiting the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund and Heart of Dinner, distributed via The Here and There Collective, a fiscally sponsored project operating under the tax-exempt umbrella of Players Philanthropy Fund, a recognized 501(c)(3) public charity.
