William John Leech was an Irish impressionist painter, encouraged early in his career by Walter Osborne. He is best known for his landscapes and interiors painted in Concarneau, Brittany, as well as intimate works featuring his first wife, Saurin Elizabeth, including A Convent Garden, Brittany and The Sunshade, both from 1913. Despite critical acclaim, his reclusive nature and desire for personal privacy kept his work from achieving wider public recognition during his lifetime.
