William Hogarth was a pioneering English painter, printmaker, and social satirist whose works exposed the moral failings and hypocrisies of 18th-century British society. Best known for his narrative series such as A Rake's Progress and Marriage A-la-Mode, he combined sharp wit with masterful draughtsmanship to create biting commentary on class, politics, and human vice. Hogarth is widely regarded as the father of the British cartoon tradition and a foundational figure in sequential narrative art.
