Jean-Louis André Théodore Géricault was a French Romantic painter and lithographer, born in 1791 in Rouen, France. He is best known for his monumental masterpiece The Raft of the Medusa, a dramatic depiction of a real-life maritime disaster that challenged the conventions of academic painting. Despite dying at just 32 years old, Géricault left a lasting legacy as one of the founding pioneers of the Romantic movement in art.
