Thania Petersen works in photography and performance to explore Islam, feminism, and Cape Malay identity in South Africa. Her performative self-portraits, such as the 'Haraam' series, use her body and domestic spaces to challenge stereotypes about Muslim women and celebrate her cultural heritage. She has exhibited at Zeitz MOCAA and the Goodman Gallery.
