Steve Shelley

Steve Shelley is best known as the drummer and co-founder of the influential alternative rock band Sonic Youth, which he joined in 1985 and with which he helped define the avant-garde noise rock and post-punk sound of the late 20th century. Beyond his role as a musician, Shelley has been involved in the broader New York experimental arts scene, co-running the independent record label Smells Like Records, which has released work by artists including Beck and Guided by Voices.
