Ryuzaburo Umehara was a Japanese painter celebrated for his work in the Yōga style, a Western-influenced painting tradition that emerged in Japan during the Meiji era. He was a founding member of the Shunyo-kai art society, a significant institution in the Japanese modern art world. Umehara is regarded as one of the foremost Japanese oil painters of the 20th century, known for his vibrant colorism and synthesis of Eastern and Western artistic sensibilities.
