Robert MacBryde was a Scottish painter best known for his close artistic and personal partnership with Robert Colquhoun, the two becoming inseparable figures in the mid-20th century British art scene. His work is characterised by bold, expressive still lifes featuring fruit, musical instruments, and domestic objects rendered in a distinctive post-Cubist style influenced by Picasso and Jankel Adler. MacBryde exhibited regularly at the Lefevre Gallery in London during the 1940s and 1950s, gaining significant critical attention alongside Colquhoun, though his reputation was somewhat overshadowed by his partner's during their lifetimes and has since experienced renewed scholarly interest.
