Richard Lippold was a pioneering American sculptor renowned for his intricate, large-scale wire constructions that evoke cosmic themes of light, space, and harmony. His most celebrated works include 'Variation within a Sphere, No. 10: The Sun' (1953, 56) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and monumental installations for the New York Philharmonic's Avery Fisher Hall and the Pan Am Building lobby. Lippold's geometric, precision-engineered sculptures transformed architectural interiors into luminous environments, making him one of the most significant American constructivist artists of the postwar era.
