Raúl Anguiano

Raúl Anguiano (1915, 2006) was a prominent Mexican muralist and painter known for his powerful figurative works blending indigenous themes with modernist influences. A founding member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana, he created murals for major public institutions across Mexico and documented indigenous cultures through his art, most notably in his expeditions to the Lacandón jungle. His work is celebrated for its dramatic use of color, humanist sensibility, and deep roots in Mexican cultural identity.
