Raghubir Singh (1942, 1999) was a pioneering Indian photographer celebrated for his vibrant, color-saturated images of India, particularly his native Rajasthan and the Ganges plain. Working at a time when color photography was not yet widely accepted as fine art, he championed its use to capture the complex layering of Indian street life, light, and culture. His work, which drew comparisons to Henri Cartier-Bresson while remaining distinctly his own, was widely exhibited and published, establishing him as one of the most important documentary and fine art photographers of the 20th century.
