Petrus Van Schendel

Petrus van Schendel (1806, 1870) was a Belgian-Dutch painter renowned for his candlelit nocturnal market scenes, which earned him the nickname 'the painter of night markets.' He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and later settled in Paris, where his luminous genre paintings attracted widespread acclaim and strong commercial success.
