Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian

Iranian(1922–2019)

Farmanfarmaian created mirror-mosaic installations and geometric drawings inspired by Islamic architecture, particularly the mirror work in Iranian shrines. After decades working in Iran, she gained international recognition late in life with exhibitions at the Guggenheim (2015), Tate Modern, and the Met Breuer. Her work synthesizes traditional Persian craft with modernist abstraction and is held in major museum collections worldwide.
