Martín Chirino (1925, 2019) was a prominent Spanish sculptor born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, celebrated for his iconic 'El Viento' (The Wind) series of spiraling iron sculptures that evoke the power of natural forces and the winds of the Canary Islands. His abstract works are deeply rooted in the volcanic landscape and African cultural heritage of his birthplace, forging a distinctive visual language through forged and welded iron. Chirino was a founding member of the influential El Paso group in 1957, which helped redefine Spanish modernism in the post-war era.
