Léon-Jean-Basile Perrault was a French academic painter born in 1832 in Poitiers, France, who studied under William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Alexandre Cabanel at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He became celebrated for his idealized, sentimentally rendered depictions of children and young women, earning considerable success at the Paris Salon throughout the latter half of the 19th century. His works are highly sought after at auction for their technical refinement and warm, luminous treatment of his subjects.
