Keiji Uematsu is a pioneering Japanese sculptor and conceptual artist associated with the Mono-ha movement, which emerged in Japan in the late 1960s and emphasized the relationships between materials, space, and natural forces. His works frequently explore the tension between physical matter and invisible forces such as gravity, wind, and light, often creating installations where ropes, stones, and metal interact in carefully balanced configurations. Uematsu has exhibited extensively in Europe and Japan, including at Documenta and numerous international biennials, and is recognized as a key figure in postwar Japanese and global conceptual art.
