Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period, widely celebrated for his woodblock print series 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji,' which includes the iconic 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa.' Working across nine decades with relentless creative energy, he produced an estimated 30,000 works encompassing prints, sketches, and paintings that profoundly influenced Western Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He famously remarked that his artistic skills only truly began to develop after the age of seventy, embodying a lifelong dedication to mastery.
