Joseph Chinard

Joseph Chinard (1756, 1813) was a prominent French Neoclassical sculptor born in Lyon, celebrated for his elegant portrait busts and medallions of Napoleonic-era figures, including members of the Bonaparte family. Trained in Rome, he absorbed the classical tradition while developing a refined sensitivity to psychological likeness that distinguished his portraiture. His works are held in major institutions including the Louvre and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.
