Johann Neudörffer the Elder (1497, 1563) was a renowned German calligrapher, writing master, and mathematician based in Nuremberg, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of German script and penmanship. He authored the seminal 1519 treatise 'Anweisung einer gemeinen Handschrift,' which standardized German chancery script, and trained generations of scribes and artists. Neudörffer was also closely associated with leading Nuremberg artists including Albrecht Dürer and helped document the biographies of prominent local craftsmen and painters.
