Jacques Laurent Agasse was a Swiss-born painter who became one of the most celebrated animal painters in 19th-century Britain. Trained in Paris under Jacques-Louis David, he settled in London around 1800 where he gained patronage from the Earl of Dysart and later attracted royal attention. His works are renowned for their precise anatomical accuracy, tender observation of animals, and luminous landscape backgrounds.
