Ihei Kimura (1901, 1974) was one of Japan's most celebrated photographers, renowned for his humanistic street photography and his mastery of the 35mm Leica camera. He captured everyday life in Japan and abroad with a warm, spontaneous style that bridged documentary and artistic photography, earning him a reputation as the 'father of Japanese Leica photography.' His work appeared in major publications and he was a founding figure of Japanese photographic culture, co-founding the Japan Photographers Society and winning the prestigious Kimura Ihei Award, which was named in his honor after his death.
