Helen Khal was a pioneering Lebanese-American painter and art critic who played a central role in shaping Beirut's modern art scene during the mid-twentieth century. She studied at the Art Students League in New York before settling in Lebanon, where she developed a lyrical abstract style influenced by color field painting and her Mediterranean surroundings. Khal was also a celebrated writer and advocate for the arts, authoring the seminal book 'The Woman Artist in Lebanon' (1987).
