Giuseppe Antonio Petrini was an Italian Baroque painter born in Carona, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland, who spent much of his career working in northern Italy. He is best known for his deeply expressive religious and devotional works, characterized by dramatic chiaroscuro effects and emotional intensity reminiscent of Caravaggio and his followers. His paintings, including numerous depictions of saints and apostles, have appeared regularly at major auction houses including Christie's, Sotheby's, and Dorotheby's, attesting to sustained collector interest in his work.
