Genevieve Gaignard

Genevieve Gaignard (born 1981) is an American artist whose interdisciplinary practice spans photography, installation, and collage to explore race, identity, gender, and Southern American culture. Working in elaborate self-portraiture, she transforms herself into a range of characters that probe the complexities of mixed-race identity, beauty standards, and social performance. Her work draws on vernacular photography, pop culture, and domestic spaces to challenge stereotypes and examine how identity is constructed and performed.
