Gaylen Gerber

Gaylen Gerber is a Chicago-based conceptual artist best known for his ongoing project 'Backdrop,' in which he applies a uniform gray paint to his own works as well as to works by other artists, effectively neutralizing individual authorship and foregrounding questions of context, support, and value. His practice challenges assumptions about originality, display, and the institutional frameworks that define art. Gerber has been exhibited internationally and is considered a significant figure in conceptual and institutional critique art.
