Erwin Hauer was an Austrian-American sculptor and designer celebrated for his pioneering development of modular, continuous surface sculptures that explore the interplay of light, shadow, and infinite form. Trained at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and later at the Rhode Island School of Design, he became a faculty member at Yale University, where he taught for decades and influenced generations of artists and designers. His iconic architectural screens and walls, originally designed in the 1950s, have experienced a major revival through digital fabrication techniques and have been exhibited and installed in prominent public and private spaces worldwide.
