Eanger Irving Couse (1866, 1936) was an American painter celebrated for his romanticized depictions of Native American life, particularly focusing on the Pueblo peoples of New Mexico. He was a founding member of the Taos Society of Artists in 1915 and spent decades working in Taos, where he developed his signature style of warm, firelit scenes featuring indigenous figures. His works were enormously popular with collectors and were widely reproduced, making him one of the most commercially successful artists of the American Southwest.
