De Cost Smith

De Cost Smith (1864, 1939) was an American painter and illustrator best known for his intimate and ethnographically detailed depictions of Native American life, particularly the Ojibwe people of New York and Canada. He spent considerable time living among indigenous communities, producing works celebrated for their authenticity and sympathetic portrayal. His paintings were exhibited widely and reproduced in prominent publications of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
