Joana Choumali is an Ivorian photographer and mixed-media artist whose work blends photography with hand embroidery, creating layered pieces that explore themes of identity, resilience, memory, and African urban life. Her series 'Ça va aller' (It Will Be Alright), created in response to a 2016 terror attack in Abidjan, won the Prix Pictet in 2019, bringing her international recognition. Choumali's practice is deeply rooted in the emotional and cultural landscapes of West Africa, using textile traditions to add intimacy and depth to her photographic work.
